The genus Musa (Banana) is difficult to classify taxonomically because humans have been selecting and crossing these plants for centuries. All edible bananas are cultivated products originating from the species Musa acuminata. There are around 400 commonly grown varieties of bananas. These can be divided into the varieties for fresh consumption and the varieties intended for frying or boiling. Banana plants are becoming increasingly popular. And no wonder, because specimens from this sizable group of tropical plants automatically add an exotic look to your living room.
